    In this Unit, the students will be acquainted with the risk assessment process for workplace safety and health focused with the identification of workplace hazards, analysis and evaluation of the level of risk. Moreover, the students will be able to understand that the risk management process is a critical step in anyorganisation who is proactively involve in the mitigation of safety and health risk before the occurrence of an injury, ill health or near miss.

    Session 3 – Psychosocial Hazards and Work-Related Stress

    For any organisation, the negative effects include poor overall business' performance, increased absenteeism and presenteeism (workers turning up for work when sick and unable to function effectively) and increased accident and injury rates. Estimates of the cost to businesses and society from employees affected by psychosocial risk factors are significant and run into billions in a country. After this unit, the students will be able to understand the concept of psychosocial hazards and mental health and to evaluate the different strategies for promoting mental health at the workplace.

    Session 5 – Ergonomics at Work and Human Factors
    (2023) Dayalutchmee Amrita Kodye-Domah
    This unit aims to provide the students with a broad based introduction to ergonomics principles and its application in the design of work, equipment and the workplace. Specific consideration is given to musculoskeletal disorders, manual handling, ergonomic aspects of the environment, as well as to the social aspects and relevant standards. At the end of the unit, the students will be able to understand the purpose and concept of ergonomics principles to promote safety and health at the workplace and to explain on the steps in an Ergonomics Risk Assessment.
