For any organisation, the negative effects include poor overall business' performance, increased absenteeism and presenteeism (workers turning up for work when sick and unable to function effectively) and increased accident and injury rates. Estimates of the cost to businesses and society from employees affected by psychosocial risk factors are significant and run into billions in a country. After this unit, the students will be able to understand the concept of psychosocial hazards and mental health and to evaluate the different strategies for promoting mental health at the workplace.
