Abstract
Complex numbers are used in many scientific fields, including engineering, electromagnetism, quantum physics and applied mathematics, such as chaos theory. Therefore, knowledge of complex numbers is clearly absolutely essential for further studies in so many engineering disciplines. Lesson № 1 introduces the definition and the basic properties of the complex number system C. This is followed by a presentation of the fundamental arithmetic operations on C× C.
